FÜReinander MITeinander
Solidarity-based housing project in hybrid timber construction
With the FÜReinanderhaus (meaning for each other) and the MITeinanderhaus (meaning together) a solidarity-based housing project is being created in Freiburg that combines cooperative building, social inclusion, and sustainable urban development. The two buildings are being constructed as a twin project by Aktion Mensch e.V. and the cooperative Oekogeno e.G. in the Kleineschholz neighborhood and are part of the new urban district of Kleineschholz.
The goal of the model project is to create a vibrant community of people from different generations and life situations, both with and without support needs.
Located directly on the central neighborhood square, the four-story FÜReinanderhaus by Aktion Mensch includes 13 rental apartments. Four shared apartments are designated for people with disabilities, in part with living spaces for students providing assistance. The ground floor houses a café, an accessible medical practice and an office for neighborhood assistance.
The adjacent L-shaped MITeinanderhaus comprises 50 cooperative rental apartments, community and coworking spaces, as well as two guest apartments. Both buildings are accessed via pergolas and connected by bridges. This creates meeting places that are complemented by spacious roof terraces and the communal garden of the MITeinanderhaus. The underground bicycle parking garage has space for around 270 bicycles.
Of the residential units, 50% are allocated to subsidized social housing and a further 25% to rent-controlled housing.
The buildings feature timber construction with wooden facades and extensive facade greenery. Natural surfaces, space-efficient layouts and the planned “Efficiency House 40 NH” energy standard complement the sustainable overall concept and form the basis for an inclusive, future-oriented housing project.
