GÄRTNERHOF BUILDING GROUP PROJECT

The Gärtnerhof project in Lennéstraße in Potsdam is a building group project with 14 flats. The heritage-protected building ensemble consists of a front building with two side wings as well as the single monument “Gärtnerhaus” (gardener’s house) from the 19th century , in which the gardeners of the nearby Sanssouci palace park lived, and which gave the project its name.

The ensemble is complemented by two new buildings in timber construction: the new three-storey side wing mirrors the cubature of the existing side wing. Flats are created that extend over the old and new buildings and are partly designed as maisonettes. A three-storey wooden house is being built on one of the fire walls adjacent to the site.

The project combines the careful renovation of existing buildings in keeping with the preservation order with modern, sustainable timber buildings. In their design, these buildings respond to the existing buildings and yet speak their own language in terms of construction and facade cladding.

The large communal garden with play areas and communal flower beds offers plenty of space for the house community.
